Profile & Settings

Manage your account profile, preferences, and notification settings.

Your profile is your identity on Speakly.PRO. Keep it up to date so your teachers know who you are, your timezone is correct for scheduling, and your notification preferences match how you like to learn.

Accessing Your Profile

There are several ways to open your profile settings:

  1. From the header: Click your profile picture (or avatar placeholder) in the top-right corner, then select "Profile"
  2. From the sidebar: Click "Profile" in the account section at the bottom of the sidebar
  3. Direct URL: Navigate to /platform/profile

Editing Profile Information

Personal Details

Your personal information helps teachers and the platform personalize your experience.

Navigate to ProfilePersonal Information and edit the following fields:

  • Full Name -- displayed to teachers and on your profile card
  • Email Address -- used for login and notifications (changing this requires email verification)
  • Date of Birth -- may be required by your school
  • Country -- helps with content localization
  • Timezone -- critical for accurate schedule display and live session timing

Click "Save" when done.

Setting your timezone correctly is critical. If your timezone is wrong, live session times will display incorrectly, and you might miss classes. Always verify this setting when traveling.

Language Preferences

Control the languages used throughout the platform:

  • UI Language -- the language of the platform interface (English, Russian, or Ukrainian)
  • Native Language -- your first language, used for vocabulary translations
  • Target Language -- the language you're learning, used to match content and courses

To change these:

  1. Go to ProfileLanguage Preferences
  2. Select your preferred options from the dropdowns
  3. Click "Save"

Changing your target language may affect which courses and marketplace content are recommended to you.

Changing Your Avatar

Your avatar appears across the platform -- on your profile card, in course enrollment lists, in messaging, and during live sessions.

Uploading a New Avatar

Open Avatar Settings

Go to Profile and click on your current avatar image (or the placeholder icon).

Select an Image

Click "Upload Photo" and choose an image file from your device. Supported formats: JPG, PNG, GIF. Maximum file size: 5 MB.

Crop and Adjust

Use the cropping tool to select the visible area of your photo. The preview shows how it will appear at different sizes.

Confirm

Click "Save" to apply your new avatar. The change takes effect immediately across the platform.

Notification Preferences

Fine-tune how and when the platform communicates with you.

Notification Categories

Navigate to ProfileNotifications to configure each category:

Delivery Channels

For each notification category, you can enable or disable:

  • In-app notifications -- badge counts and toast popups within the platform
  • Email notifications -- sent to your registered email address

Go to ProfileNotifications, toggle the channels on or off for each notification type, and click "Save Notification Preferences". Changes take effect immediately.

Privacy Settings

Control who can see your information and how your data is used.

Profile Visibility

  • Public -- other students in your courses can see your name and avatar
  • Private -- only your teachers can see your profile
  • Anonymous -- your name is hidden on leaderboards (if enabled)

Data Preferences

  • Learning analytics -- allow the platform to track and display your learning patterns
  • Leaderboard participation -- opt in or out of course and platform leaderboards
  • Activity sharing -- control whether your achievements are visible to classmates

Navigate to ProfilePrivacy to adjust these settings.

Account Security

Changing Your Password

Open Security Settings

Go to ProfileAccountChange Password.

Enter Current Password

Type your existing password to verify your identity.

Set New Password

Enter your new password and confirm it. Passwords must be at least 8 characters and include a mix of letters and numbers.

Save

Click "Update Password". You will remain logged in, but other active sessions may be signed out.

Connected Accounts

If you signed up via SSO (Google, etc.), you can manage connected accounts:

  1. Go to ProfileAccountConnected Accounts
  2. View which external accounts are linked
  3. Connect or disconnect providers as needed

Troubleshooting

Profile Changes Not Saving

  1. Ensure all required fields are filled (name, timezone, etc.)
  2. Check that your avatar image is under 5 MB
  3. Verify your internet connection is stable
  4. Try refreshing the page and re-entering your changes

Not Receiving Email Notifications

  1. Check your spam/junk email folder
  2. Verify your email address is correct in Profile settings
  3. Ensure email notifications are enabled for the relevant category
  4. Add the platform's email domain to your safe senders list

Avatar Not Updating

  1. Clear your browser cache (Ctrl+Shift+Delete)
  2. Try uploading a different image format (JPG instead of PNG, or vice versa)
  3. Ensure the image is under 5 MB and at least 200x200 pixels

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I delete my account? A: Contact platform support through Profile → Help → Contact Support. Account deletion is processed manually and may take 3-5 business days. Note that this action is irreversible.

Q: Can I have multiple profiles? A: No. Each email address is associated with a single account. If you need separate student and teacher accounts, use different email addresses.

Q: Does changing my timezone affect past schedule entries? A: No. Past events remain as recorded. Only future events will display in your updated timezone.
